observer Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 The modern term would be patronage - plently of it still around (especially in politics!), with a widening wealth gap. Quote
Mary Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 I think for those that still think in the feudal way it is - for others its not. Quote
tonymaillman Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 Not necessarily ......... if you know in detail about the feudal system then it's quite clear to see it still exists Quote

Mary Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Feudalism: The social and economic system which characterized most European societies in Middle Ages. The system was not unique to Western Europe; the granting of land in return for military service, has appeared all over the world in many different kinds of society- Japan under the shogunates in the 19th century, for example. Unique in England, the village of Laxton in Nottinghamshire continues to retain some vestiges of the feudal system, where the land is still farmed using the open field system. The feudal court now only meets annually, with its authority now restricted to management of the farmland. Quote
observer Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Think Alderney (Channel Islands), still retains a feudal governance? Quote
