observer
Well, following the Chancellor's gloomy forcast on the worst recession in 60 years, the Tories have gotten hold of a "leaked letter", basically telling us what has been forcast on this board for some time: IE: that the economic downturn will give rise to increasing levels of crime, anti-immigration sentiment and the rise of political extremism. However, we are also told; "plans" are in place - what "plans" we may ask?
Paul Kennedy
Those would be the plans to change the Chancellor, Observer. Fair play to him though, I do admire his honesty....but in politics that is not always the best policy....so I'm told.

observer
Actually Paul, there was an analysis on Newsnight tonight which believes Alister's projection to be slightly pessimistic, so he's probably overstated the situation for some ulterior motive. However, my reference to "the plan" was one of suspicion - IF they are saying (probably correctly) that the public mood will become less tolerant of immigration and political extremes may find fertile soil, what are "their plans" to counter this? And does this constitute treating the symptoms rather than the causations?
