observer
Well the latest ban going through Parliament is an anti-ageISM bill. Whilst there may be good grounds for this attempt - discrimination by holiday insurance companies, doctors etc - can it work? Certainly in the area of employment promotion: if ALL applicants are equally qualified - how does one prove descrimination? Perhaps now, if an airline looses your luggage, and you have a tantrum with the staff, you can now play the ageist card!
Bazj
I'm off to apply as a rep with Club 18-30.... 14 years out of date but they can't discriminate against me now!!
asperity
This anti ageism legislation is absolutely vital for Gordon to achieve his goal of us all working until the day we die thus saving billions on the pension and benefit bills
observer
Actually, it gets worse: seems they're talking about "positive discrimination" in favour of females and ethnic minorities too; so nothing down for a white young or middle aged male then?! So, with rising unemployment, the BNP won't need a recruiting drive.
observer
Seems there is another "ism" at work in the workplace - accent-ism! The big losers are from Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow, Newcastle and London (cockney), in that order!
Paul Kennedy
So which accents are now in favour....and subject to positive discrimination...thankfully I have the ability to vary my accent.
observer
I suppose an accent that doesn't disclose one's geographical and social origins - sort of BBC News presenter?! So if you want promotion, turn up wearing a dress, with a really good tan and a BBC accent!
Bazj
Can you just imagine a one legged, black, female, 76 year old club 18-30 rep?? The mind boggles!
observer
Don't scoff; the oldies are now contracting higher rates of STDs than the youths!
