Geoffrey Settle
Does anyone know when and where the Warrington Hustings are taking place and who will be the David Dimblebee? I went to the one at Penketh High School last time and is was very good. I know not all the candidates have been chosen yet but with less then 7 week to go the clock is ticking Maybe observer would like to be host the events. observer
But there's nothing to debate, just a referendum to reaffirm.
Geoffrey Settle
Well we have a lot of the candidates lined up now after today's announcement by the Mayor - so let the Warrington hustings begin and we shall test you hypothesis but will we have one, two or none - are the candidates up for it - I think the Mayor will be. observer
If the Tories have any sense, they'll follow the example of the PM and ignore them; as the issues that are being raised are frankly for the next G/Election after this one. PS: there's a stark choice at this election, between a Chamberlain or a Churchill; the EU clearly intend to punish us, they've already attacked with their Junker (alias Stuka); and spread gossip outside a private meeting with the PM. Let's hope the spirit of 1940 lives on in our genes.
Sha
The genetic line of millions of people alive in 1940 were cut off before 1945! Perhaps to ensure survival negotiation would be the most sensible.
observer
Think there were more survivors of the war than non-survivors; to pass on their genes Sha. Negotiation is a two way street, and if one side has set a course to make an example of us, in order to control the rest; no amount of talking is going to suffice. EG: they've already made demands in relation to their citizens in the UK, without any reciprocal reference to our citizens in the EU. They're already insisting on payments, without any discussion on the basis for a bill. They've already ruled out any favourable arrangement for access to the single market. asperity
If the EU doesn't want to negotiate fairly then we need to flip them the finger and walk away.
observer
It's a no brainer ASP, they simply can't give us a favourable deal, otherwise the rest of the 27 would be leaving too; they have to set an example to the rest. So the PM was right in saying " no deal is better than a bad deal"; we need to prepare for the worst and give them nothing, other than the return of their nationals. So while this fundamental issue is at issue; Labour's going round promising all sorts of spending plans with money from their secret money tree; and they can't even get their figures right; as with Dianne Abbots gaff over the promise of more police. They truly are a coalition of chaos.
Confused52
The EU need to get their minds around the fact the arrangement is really a treaty and not a contract, we really can just walk away under the UN convention on treaties. Then they need to look at Article 50 which states " .. Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union." It is pretty clear that the framework for the future relationship is required before or at the same time as the agreement on withdrawal. The EU negotiators are pushing their luck at every turn. It is so annoying and I didn't even want to leave!
observer
I agree Con; but the political realities will motivate the EU's approach. They are desperate to shore up the EU, which is losing credibility with it's own population, so it is vital that we are seen to have been made worse off by our exit. It may be painfull for us, but it will also be painfull for them; as tariffs etc are a two way street.
Geoffrey Settle
Hopefully the questions being raised throughout these discussions can be put by posters at the Warrington Hustings if they go ahead, see you there
observer
That presumes your candidates know the answers - Dianne certainly didn't !
