observer
Seems UKIP have come up with the fairly common sense idea, that all visas to visit the UK, should be conditional on the applicants having private medical insurance. The current system, has NHS admin employees chasing payments and is inefficient and ineffective. So why didn't the main Parties think of this - and just do it?

Davy51
Isn't the EHIC supposed to cover basic standard health treatment throughout the EU ?
asperity
The EHIC only covers you for emergency health problems. The trouble is that foreigners with chronic health problems are turning up in this country looking for free treatment. Another problem is the large number of heavily pregnant foreigners turning up looking for natal and post natal care on the NHS.
observer
... and the NHS have to employ staff it can ill afford, to chase these characters for the cash.
