observer
Seems among the down sides of week-ends, being admitted to Hospital is yet another - as it appears survival rates are 10% less.
Nick Tessla
Does this take into account that if you are admitted at a weekend you are more likely to have a life threstening condition than a routine, planned admission on a week day? Clearly emergencies happen every day - but I would expect that the ratio of emergency to non emergency admissions to be higher at weekends and therefore not be surprised if a greater number of weekend admissions pegged it. Nick Tessla
More emergencies when people are off work than when in work. Even if the number of emergency admissions are constant throughout the week , the number of non emergency admissions will be lower at the weekends - thefore the ratio of emergency admissions will be higher at a weekend.
