Jerry
This was the daily poem in my email box from Lake Wobegon: The Pig by Anonymous It was the first of May A lovely warm spring day I was strolling down the street in drunken pride, But my knees were all a-flutter, And I landed in the gutter And a pig came up and lay down by my side. Yes, I lay there in the gutter Thinking thoughts I could not utter When a lady passing by did softly say 'You can tell a man who boozes By the company he chooses' ? And the pig got up and slowly walked away. "The Pig" by Anonymous. Public domain.
Geoffrey Settle
- Jerry I thought that you couldn't drink in the streets? Were you arrested and did the little piggy get home safely?

Jerry
Musing about the pig -- I grew up around pig farms in Illinois -- there is a rendering plant just outside of Monmouth with a foul smell as you approach the town. Clint Eastwood wrestles a pig in his brilliant film UNFORGIVEN. I don't know about Britannia but having pet pot belly pigs from Asia was fad here a couple decades ago. Arnold the Pig was a character on our rural TV series Green Acres which probably did not play over there - a bit too regional. I believe pigs sent to Denmark after 1945 aided the agriculture rebuilding of that country -- -- or did they export Danish hams before 1940?
