Geoffrey Settle
What a brilliant two day performance by Jessica Ennis. She secured Britain's first ever heptathlon gold at the World Championships after completing a dominant victory in Berlin. The 23-year-old sealed the landmark win by winning her heat in the final 800m event to finish on 6731 points, 238 clear of Germany's Jennifer Oeser. What a way to come back from injury especially when you think that she had to sit out the Beijing Olympics last year due to three stress fractures in her right foot. Paul Kennedy
Totally agree with you Geoff, a fantastic performance....alas her victory was somewhat overshadowed by the 100 metres final.
Geoffrey Settle
If anything I think that they complimented each other, interviews were taking place with both sets of athletes at the same time. There was the obvious delight of the girls celebrating their event and congratulating each other. They started their lap of honour and ok had to stop part way through to watch the 100 metre final BUT what a vantage point they had of the men's race before they continued their celebration to the interview area where they were introduced to each other. Two great events back to back.

Geoffrey Settle
Sorry... to right it does. Here's his medal ceremony and performance - NO Fluke as the commentator says. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/8210571.stm Former triple jump world champion Jonathan Edwards presents Phillips Idowu with the gold medal for winning the event at the 2009 Athletics World Championships in Berlin. What a red head, use to be blue was it ever green? Fantastic achievement. Another thing that has impressed me has been the celebrations of nearly all athletes. They really let go of a load of emotion, years of graft sweat and tears AND their fellow athletes nearly all congratulated them. In Idowu's case he was dum struck and couldn't really believe it after all those years of getting so close. Great World Champs so far.
