One of the most deprived constituencies in the Country, with over 50% of adults on the dole or incapacity benefits, and a Labour Government gearing up to punish them - so you'd think they'd reject New Labour - but I'll be surprised if they do - such is the ovine nature of folk. As if to add insult to injury: allegations about the previous MPs expense claims are now surfacing: he has allegedly claimed rent for the use of his Glasgow home as an Office; but the current Labour candidate didn't seem to know where he lived never mind where his office was! Talk about taking your core support for granted!:wink:

SNP win with a majority of 365 after a recount. Turnout was quite good, about 42%. Conservatives retained deposit.....L/Ds didn't.

There is a school of thought that if Mr Brown feels there will be a challenge for the Leadership, he will call a snap election as one way of uniting the troops. Lose of course and then resign.........maybe wishful thinking on my part.

Nah, it's nothing to do with Brown; they (NuLab) are collectively living in a deamworld that bears no relationship to their core supporters experience. This is a deserved kicking, but they'll win it back when they lose the next General Election. At least the Scots have got a viable alternative for Labour voters to vote for.

Well I would vote for the Scottish nationalists too. The sooner we get rid of the lot north of the border the better off we will all be down here. We are currently subsidising their health system, free prescriptions and free University places for all while down here we have to pay for it all.

Full blown devolution is what is needed!

Devolution isn't the same as petty nationalistic independence; it's about passing powers down, whilst still retaining the national identity and integrity of the UK. Which argues that 7million English in the N/West, should have the same degree of devolved power as 5million Scots.
