Admission/programme/refreshments none bar local shops/chippy, which the Town followers made full use of.

 

 

 

I had not been to Ruthin for a few seasons but was hardly likely to pass up on this one. The ground has not changed, being railed on three sides and with a decent sized stand on one corner. The other side had no barrier as it bounds the cricket pitch, but does get railed once the cricket season is over. In the end it was a decent game although The Wire really ought to have won, gifting our hosts with two soft goals. The first came quite early in the half. Town conceded possession on the edge of the box and with Mottram out of position left the Ruthin player with a simple lob to score. Some good passing and movement led to Karl Rendell scoring at the far post. Within ten mins Mottram fired a weak goal kick straight to an unmarked Ruthin player who fired to an empty net. HT

 

The second half saw us dominate possession but Ruthin proved difficult to break down. We eventually did and it was a very well taken goal. Again good passing & movement saw Thomas Lamb fire a shot that was parried by the keeper. A good save but it returned to Lamb who turned, and despite four defenders in close attention, drilled a shot into the top corner. A great goal even if the defence was a touch static from the rebound.

 

The remainder of the game saw us in control until a host of substitutions were made. Ruthin came more into it then and forced a great save from Mottram, who made up for his earlier indiscretion. Warrington just about shaded it and should have won but to be fair to Ruthin they made a good contribution to an entertaining game and I would not begrudge them their share of the imaginary point.
