asperity
An expected defeat (again) by Salford, given that Wire played at Wembley last Saturday and Salford last played the Saturday before that. Thank you Sky! Salford are in form having won their previous 5 games while Warrington had lost the previous 5 Superleague games. However strong defending by Wire restricted Salford to just 2 points in the first half, but a 14 minute blitz after the break saw the Red Devils score 4 tries, 2 converted, taking them to 22 points. Wire kept going however and were rewarded in the 79th minute with Jack Walker scoring with a fine individual effort, converted by Stefan Ratchford to avoid a nil scoreline. Final score Salford 22 Wire 6. Warrington will need to get a result in the remaining 2 matches against Wakefield and Leeds if they are to feature in the play offs, with Wigan Hull and Castleford chasing them with a game in hand. Wirewire
I was there and felt we did our best and showed great character under the circumstances. We looked jaded and tired and disjointed in attack, but strong in defense apart from some errors gifting Salford some tries. The RFL need to look at player welfare and take it seriously. asperity
Yes, there were a couple of attempted grubber kicks near the Salford line that ended up gifting them breakaways, one of them directly resulting in a runaway try. It's okay being adventurous when you're ahead but not so much when chasing the game. But, as I said, this was an expected result under the circumstances. It was mentioned on Sky last night that the last 6 Challenge Cup winners have gone on to lose their next game so we're only maintaining a tradition 😉.
