I've heard that we were a bit like the Italians, and supported whichever side was in Town! Parliament held London and the S/East and E/Anglia, with part of w/Yorkshire. The Royalists had Newcastle under the Earl, most of Wales with Lord Derby active around the N/West and Cornwall and the S/West under Hopkins(?); with the King at Nottingham.
