Ingredients

The Dough

1 1/2 cups warm water

2 Tbsp. sugar

2 1/4 tsp yeast

1/4 cup oil

2 tsp salt

1 egg

5 cups flour (Bread flour is best)

Meat Filling

1 1/2 lbs ground beef or ground lamb

2 large tomatoes (finely diced)

1/2 cup parsley (finely chopped)

1/4 cup tomato paste

1/2 cup tomato sauce

2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 med onion (finely chopped)

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Mix all above ingredients together

Directions

Dough:

1. Mix water and sugar in bowl

2. Add yeast and stir gently, let rest 5 minutes

3. Add oil, salt and egg

4. Fold in flour gradually

5. Knead until smooth

6. Place in oiled bowl then flip over and cover bowl. Let sit 30 minutes

1. Heat oil in a pan then add the ingredients and cook till about 3/4 done - allow to cool

Filling:

1. After dough has risen, punch down dough and divide into small balls

....depends on what size you want the bread to be (I usually divide dough

into 10 pieces)

2. Roll out each ball into a flat circle, then place filling onto dough, (1-2 tbsps)

3. There are many ways of shaping the Fatayer, I like the triangle method,

looks nice

4. Make a dotted outline of a triangle around filling, with corners of

triangle reaching the edge, brush edges of dough with water, then fold

dough at the lines and press dough together ...leaving a small hole in middle for

steam to escape, if you can’t figure it out, make any shape you want!! Just make

sure edges are pressed firmly together or you’ll just have a mess!

5. Bake in 400 degree oven for 20-25 minutes
