observer
Old ideas - new applications: watched a prog about the building of the new airbus; seems the skin of the plane is a composite of aluminium and fibre glass, lighter and stronger than aluminium alone - the idea being based on the Mongol invention of the composite bow. It's escape shutes are inflated by rocket exhaust - based on the old Congreve rocket; and it's shock absorbing undercarriage based on the idea of the bicycle pump. Sue Durnim
Amazing that there is nothing new under the sun, old technologies that still work today, I too was watching a programme, sometime ago, which dealt with bamboo as material for clothes and for German car seats/side panels etc, apparently it can be made to be as soft as silk and durable as wood/leather/metal, who would have thought it.
