asperity Posted July 11, 2009 Report Share Posted July 11, 2009 I have just seen a news report about Afghanistan which stated that the roads in Helmand are littered with IEDs. Apparently the Taleban are adept at making these devices using fertiliser as the explosive. The fertiliser is supplied free of charge by the UN, very handily in 25kg bags. The reason our lads are vulnerable, is because they are tied to the use of flimsy land-rovers, rather than helicopters (mind you, even helis are vulnerable to ground fire).
