observer
I was watching an episode of Time Team, digging up an old Anglo-Saxon cemetery; and a discussion that suggested the new migrants (Angles, Saxons and Jutes) didn't drive off the resident Celts, but rather mixed with them, abeit in a position of social superiority (similiar to the Norman migration). However, DNA samples from current populations suggest a predominance of Anglo-saxon genes throughout England, with Celtic genes being confined to the western fringes; which suggests a total displacement of the original indigenous population. Our language also, indicates a Germanic derivation, with some Latin influence, rather than any fusion with Celtic launguage. Does anyone know?
