Chris
Saw 'Bobby' last Sunday and highly recommend it. It's about events leading to the assassination of Robert Kennedy, the lives of certain Ambassador Hotel staff members, and how the event impacts upon them. The acting is cleverly interspersed with historic news footage. The Americans do have a way of eliminating those that seem (and I emphasise that word)to be shining lights. The parallels to the current situation with Iraq are both fascinating and disturbing. Oh, and a great soundtrack too (including both the popular music and composed for movie music)- I've ordered the CD.
Jerry
Saw it on DVD tonight and it's just as you described. It's a work of art, it's magnificent. And timely, as you said. In 1968 I was a Democratic volunteer campaign worker like those two young guys -- but never was interested in expanding my consciousness. Emilio Estevez is a genius. Jerry
And the music, yes, did you know the song 'LBJ took the IRT, down to 4th street, USA... LBJ, FBI, CIA...' was from the stage and film musical HAIR? My wife and I went to see HAIR in Hollywood that year. That's another great source of under appreciated tunes. Chris
Jerry, Interested to hear that you were a Democratic Party volunteer campaign worker in '68.I won't pretend to understand the American political process (or how US citizens permitted 'the forces of evil' to blatently shanghai the electoral process to appoint George Dubya in his 1st term), but interested to hear of your active involvement in the process nonetheless. On the drugs issue, what?, you didn't inhale? Jerry, also glad that you enjoyed the movie too. 'Bobby' is highly recommended to everyone who's not yet seen it - left me pondering the great 'what if?' question. I'm now on the lookout for a good biography on RFK. By the way, I now have the soundtrack and it's worth having, even though not every track featured in the movie is on the disc (I'm guessing copyright issues). I never saw the iconic '60's musical,'Hair' but did have a copy of the stage show soundtrack eons ago. I didn't recall the tune you mentioned, but do recall other songs from 'Hair'('Hair', 'Aquarious', 'Good Morning Starshine' and 'Let the Sunshine in' being obvious one's - all 4 became popular hits on the charts).
