observer
In 1939 Stalin signed a peace pact with Hitler, then proceeded to take a slice of E/Poland when the Germans invaded. The Soviets rounded up most of the educated middle class, and deported them to Siberia; they also executed around 20,000 Army Officers. Churchill seems to have known all this, but turned a blind eye, because the Russians were tying down 75% of the German Army. Seems Polish General Sikorsky wasn't playing the expediency game, and was killed in a fatal plane crash near Gibraltar. So nothing new in the history of politics it seems - as Machiavelli noted.
