Very intelligent characters, he's a science popularizer writer, she's a teacher of Romantic Poetry - she is willing to fly to Tokyo to examine a rare Keats document. Was the man who tried to save the 10 year old in a runaway balloon a fool or a hero? Either way, he's dead. Was Joe a coward or sensible in letting go of the balloon rope when he did?
