Hi All,

I ama new to this so please excuse any blunders.

The census returns from 1841 to 1871 show my 3xgreat-grandparents William & Sarah Domville farming on Cow Lane in Great Sankey. In 1881 to 1901 this farm is held by their son John.

In all of these census returns the adjacent entry is a farm held by the Cook family. In 1841 the farmers are William & Margaret Cook, with John & Catherine also living there. This census does not give relationships between occupants, but from later returns it is clear that John & Catherine were married. We also know that Catherine was the daughter of the next-door neighbours William & Sarah Domville.

This is just the startr, and the inter-marriages between these families and others soon become very complivcated. Can anyone shed any light on living descendants of these families? Also, does anyone know when Cow Lane was renamed Burtonwood Lane?

Best regards to all,

PaulW.

Hi Paul,

I know it’s some time ago since you posted this but I was also searching when Cow Lane changed to Burtonwood Rd.

to my surprise your post came up. We must be related.

my grandparents lived at Domville’s Farm until just before the 2nd world war. My mother and her sisters were also born there. It was John Jnr Domville and his wife Nellie née Baguley. Before that it was his mum and dad gr grandparents John domville and his wife Margaret née Baker. And goes back to the 1700’s. Yes the Cooks, kelsalls and kilshaws are also relatives.
Who was your direct ancestors? Would be interested to know.
