Lt Kije
You cannot expect to get away with extorting facts, to suit your argument, people will think you are a wannabe politician (councillor)
observer
.. and the facts were? Your pair of Kings didn't trump my King and Queen!
Lt Kije
I don't think any of the European monarchs or their Governments, stayed in their countries That is what you said, it was wrong!!

Goonerman
Obs, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth had no intention whatsoever of leaving the country. They steadfastly refused to go to Canada. As for the monarchs who came over to Britain in exile, they were busy helping facilitate their governments in exile and making morale boosting broadcasts for the folks back home. Then there is the matter of King Peter of Yugoslavia, who fought in the RAF. Not that he got much thanks for it, thanks to Titov and co. Or from you, it seems. ;o) PS Don't forget, as Prince Albert Duke of York, George VI fought in the Battle of Jutland in person in 1916. No sign of the Royals doing a bunk there either. observer
Strange, my old man met a sailor in Liverpool at the time; he said he was on the destroyer that was ready to take the Royals to Canada, should the invasion occure. As for King Peter, slight difference between his war and that of Tito's partisans, who tied up 12 German Divisions and suffered apalling conditions. Lt Kije
So Obs your old man heard a rumour?
asperity
In case of an invasion the plan was for the Royal Family to be evacuated to Madresfield Court near Malvern.
Lt Kije
I genuinely didn't know that Asp, I looked it up and it appears to be correct. Thanks for the information. It's much appreciated as the history of WW2 is an intrest of mine.
observer
Nope, he talked to one of the RN seaman who were on standby to take them to Canada - you don't believe for one second that they would have stayed here if the Krauts had landed?!
asperity
I believe the plan was for them to go to Malvern initially. Had the invasion been a success and there was danger of them being captured then the on-going plan was for them to be taken to Canada on HMS Repulse which was standing by in Liverpool for the eventuality. observer
Thank you Asp: which would confirm the logical deduction I suggested, based on Churchill's stubborn nature, his perspective on seeing the war as an Imperial venture and the obvious fact he would have been executed by the Germans (for war crimes!)
asperity
However it appears that German hopes of a successful invasion were optimistic at best, and if started wouldn't have got far.
Lt Kije
Very optimistic
observer
No doubt Asp; even if they'd have gained air supremacy by defeating Fighter Command, they still had the RN to deal with; and I'm not sure a Crete style airborne invasion would have delivered sufficient troops in a limited time span.
