July 1969 the Americans decided they needed to carry out remedial work on their side of the falls to remove a large amount of rock debris resulting from a rock fall and so the USArmy engineers constructed a temporary dam of bolders thus diverting the river over the larger but less spectacular Horseshoe Falls.

There was I thinking it was Culcheth  - post HS2

I'm not surprised Nick, I came along there a couple of weeks back and thought Cultcheth had been aligned with Warringtons 20mph speed initiative until I realised we could not achieve that speed on the roads leading into the village from the East Lancs Rd.
