Evil Sid
you could always buy huge amounts of shares in the energy companies and use the dividend paid to fund your energy needs.bonus id that the more you have to pay per unit of enrgy the more you recieve in share dividends. Bazj
If you disillusioned people think that privatising the energy companies will make us into a cheap fuel utopia; you really are dreaming. Once the government realise that the people are prepared to pay as much as we do for our energy, any takeover by them will see a miniscule reduction in costs before they too start blaming the world market prices for keeping the prices at a level which generates them the most income....

observer
Methinks you Tories are deluded; privatisation hasn't/doesn't mean competition and cheaper pricing, as we've seen with the smoke and mirrors system with the Energy Companies; and now we see the petrol companies drop the retail price per litre by 4p, when the wholesale price has dropped by more than 10p. grey_man
To be fair to the energy companies, when you spend as much as they do on political parties and have the ability to offer as many directorships to former politicians as they do, you expect something in return. So the ability to run a cartel and a price fixing operation with only the slightest hint of Government disapproval is well worth their investment. grey_man
Call Me Dave's latest wheeze is to erode the right to appeal for ordinary people. Essentially we are being asked to cough up and shut up while decisions about our lives, homes and towns are made by party donors.
Davy51
Apparently the next surprise is an escalating charge to fund green solutions to producing energy.Incidentally, is there anyone on here with relatives on the continent who knows if our Euro cousins are paying as much as us for energy or is it just us British being ripped off ? Either way it looks like energy & other production costs are being blamed for the decision by TATA to make redundancies at Port Talbot .
Lt Kije
The cost of energy in the Uk, is quite cheap, when compared to Western Europe. Tata are closing because of the World recession . No one is building, they tried moving shift patterns earlier this year to save money. 1

observer
Notice, thanks to the LibDums obsession with "green energy"; energy prices are set to rise on top of the current (alleged) fiddles by the E-companies. However. the LibDum Minister did mention "demand reduction" as part of the equation; but shouldn't free insulation be THE priority, thus reducing our bills before these price rises kick in? Peter T
obs, didn't you qualify for the free loft and cavity wall insulation?
Davy51
Yes,900 jobs affected throughout TATA's UK steel operation ...is this the steel that is used in their car production as well as steel for building ,high energy costs also blamed . observer
Peter, why does everything have to have a "me" in it? Had mine done years ago, although perhaps triple glazing would be good! There are loads of older houses that require the full treatment to fully insulate them and reduce energy consumption and thus bills, it needs to be well advertised and comprehensive. Then, moving on, there's other issues that could be addressed in any demand reduction strategy - like road lighting for example.
