Evil Sid
Recently, whilst having a clear out, my sister came across this paper clipping from the Warrington Guardian. we have worked out the date to be 1957, the year I was born. It is an act that I have known about but never before known all the details. What did surprise me was that three members of my family are mentioned and received awards from the Liverpool Humane and Shipwreck Society. My father Stanley Hinde and my uncle Alfred William (Bill) Tomkins I knew about as I had seen the certificates But I did not know about Austin Tomkins who was mentioned. I can't actually remember Austin Tomkins or what became of him something I might pursue during the course of the school holidays. Even if it is just asking the family who are left, Mainly my mother. I do know that the lad my father rescued is still alive because I remember my father pointing him out one evening when we were in the Imperial hotel having a pint or two. asperity
I had to smile at the part of the report near the end which says:- "The child had been carried at least 80 yards from the point where "it"hit the water." Apparently we kiddies were just objects in those days
