The U17 element of the Youth team (as per international rules as at 1st january 2012) will be travelling to Hilden again this Friday to play in the OBI-Hilden Cup.

Similar to last year Warrington have been placed in a strong group with...

  •
  • TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen
  • Rot-Weiß Essen
  • Fortuna 95 Düsseldorf
  • Wuppertaler SV Borussia

The team did really well last year although they did not progress beyond the group stages they were in no way outclassed by the European opposition, holding Bayer to a 0-0 draw and Fortuna Dusseldof to a 1-1.

At the end of the group stage they had played 4, won 1, drawn 2, lost 1, goals for 6, goals against 2... they came within a whisker of getting through.

The competition is intensive with between 5 and 6 games in just over 2 days, so it favours sides who can take a large squad and can rotate players to keep them fresh; last year Warrington showed some tiredness in the final (post group playoff) game.

The squad now have a full season behind them, and have been training over the summer so here's hoping for a successful tournament this year.

The Warrington lads are paying their own airfare and accomodation, they really want to play for the Town!

details will appear on the Hilden web site vfb-hilden.de but non german speakers may need google translate :)

Lost first game 1-0....

Goal disallowed for us, offside that never was!

Deflection off defender to wrong foot the Goalie for their goal.

Referee was not used to the british game and gave them loads of free kicks for us breathing near them, but didn't notice things the other way...

may be biased, but come on the wire!
