asperity
I just picked on reincarnation as one example of a doctrine preached by one of the many religions in the world. You could have mentioned the lack of birth control by many of the more primitive peoples in the world if you wanted an example, rather than the pope. Just because the pope preaches against certain birth control methods doesn't mean that catholics follow his instructions.
Lt Kije
You are right Asp, I could have used primitive people's , but the head of a primitive worldwide religion was s better example, pure an simply because he is head of a world wide religion
asperity
Simplistic gobbledegook and you know it. You were just having a pop at the pope for the sake of it. But I'm not going to carry on with this because frankly my head is beginning to hurt.
Lt Kije
I was having a go at anyone who is against birth control, if you can think of another organisation which is a better example than the catholic church Asp, Let me know and I will gladly use it. observer
The reasoning behind birth control for third world countries, is fairly simple and logical - a given region can only produce a given amount of food resources, albeit that can be increased with improved agricultural technology; if the number of mouths exceeds the capacity of said region to produce sufficient food, the result is starvation. Therefore, the answer is to reduce the number of mouths, by not reproducing excess numbers of people. China has faced up to this problem, hence their one child policy.

I remember some years ago, we made a yellow powder at work that was made into tablets to combat the leper disease. And guess what? Instead of taking the tablets, they used to sell them to make bead necklaces. Â PLUS, it's human nature to reproduce when they think the race/tribe might be coming extinct. Maybe, teaching the Westerner to moderate their eating habits, would allow enough food for the rest of the world.

observer
Peter, just in case you hadn't noticed, world population figures have exploded, and will increase exponentialy if the issue isn't addressed. Nature's natural disasters and plagues; and even man's regular attempts at genocide, seem to have failed to cull population figures.
