Parenting Classes

Recommended Posts

At last! The government has woken up to the idea of parenting classes but, alas, they will be voluntary and to encourage parents to attend they will be able to get a 100pound voucher to pay for the lessons.

The scheme is to be launched in 3 test area at a cost of 5 million pounds. 5 million pounds!? Apparantly the cost could soar to hundreds of millions of pounds. Why the friggin hell is it to cost so much!?

Dearie me. You both are missing the point, maybe deliberaately. They are not underaged parents being targetted but the maturer parents of the wayward kids and have no idea of how to conttrol their offspring.

Absolute madness and what do they hope to achieve ?

Presumably these wayward kids are older (ie not toddlers) so what is the point of 'teaching' the parents once the kids have got to an older age and have fallen into their wayward ways.

Their kids are hardy likely to say 'How was your course mum/dad, what did you learn and of course I will start to behave myself and do as you say now have your certificate in parenting... I'll also change my circle of bad friends to good ones and I'll be in by 9pm every night. I also promise to be polite, hardworking and a pillar of the local community at all times, thanks mum/dad'

It would make more sense to teach the dim parents what they should be doing when their kids are very young so that hopefully they don't turn into scallies.. sort of like most parents do without any paid for 'course' !

Well going of the news, there appears to be an infanticide epidemic at the moment; and the pre-natal kind is costing the NHS around a £million per year - one way of dealing with the problem I guess!

"infanticide" ? - have you moved to the US and joined the tea party - or just started watching Fox News?

It was your apparent description of abortion as infanticide I was commenting on

It isn't very often that I agree with observer, but, I also read his post and to me it read as he was remarking about the number of parents recently reported who have killed their babies post natal. Then he went on to remark about abortion. The two separated by a comma, thus he was not calling abortion infanticide.

Cleo, Observer's post was

Kind of what, if he doesn't mean the pre-natal kind of infanticide, i.e. abortion?
