What an eerie picture.

No other people or cars anywhere to be seen....just one man in a flat cap and long coat looking a bit like a flasher

What was the kiosk for which asks the similar question Middlec ?

In answer to your question though ... had it been a Saturday in 1989 then I would have been shopping there as I used to do every Saturday when town was a nicer place to browse and wander.

Oh Dizzy, I was going to say something about him being a flasher but decided against it just in case he or a relative/aquaintance happened to read it and recognised him.:lol::lol:

But you are right, It IS an eerie picture.

Not like you to not say what you are really thinking Cleo :P:wink:

Yes you are right. Ok then.

Looks like he's muttering to himself. "Two pound forty five return and no-one here to flash at! Might as well get the next bus home!":lol::lol::lol:

I think it was probably a wet Sunday when I took this photo, with very few people about. So I waited for someone to walk across in front of the notice on the kiosk. The kiosk was possibly something to do with a local lottery, tombola or something like that? The wording on the notice asking the question was possibly to encourage people to buy a ticket and win and go somewhere else! I don't know, I'm guessing after all these years, maybe someone else's memory is better than mine.

The kiosk was the for Warrington Wizard lottery - amazing how I can remember that but have no recollection of my beloved Warrington Town going to Wembley two years earlier

Odeon Cinema

Remember this? A real shame when they got rid.

I miss the Odeon. A real shame it went.

I bet they are kicking themselves now though as every new proposed development in town these days involves the construction of a new cinema.

I think Jurassic park was the last movie I saw there. Remember the ice cream vendors at the sides?

Great building décor wise. Another one gone.

Jurassic park was the last film I saw there too. It was a Sunday afternoon and I remember being stood in a queue outside for ages.

The new UCI had just opened off Cromwell avenue. When a multiplex is build, it takes a lot of business away from a small town cinema. I think the free parking at the UCI was an advantage to them too.

I remember the Saturday morning matinees, when I was but a young princess. The long queue of kids pushing and shoving and arguing among themselves, getting impatient. Then the excitement as the doors were opened and the word being passed back - 'We are going in!'. Got pretty noisy inside too sometimes with all the cheering and booing!:lol::lol:

Pardon me.as the boards ancient. The Odeon childrens club song, following the bouncing ball. - "to the Odeon we have come; now we're altogether we can have some fun; Oi.

----- "As members of the OCC we stress, are we happy - yes, yes, yes".

They don.t write them like that any more - nor swap Yankee comics of a Saturday morning.

Happy days

The last ever film at the Odeon to be screened was Cliffhanger with Sly Stallone - I know because I was there as Editor of the Warrington Mercury and was presented with a promotional video trailer of the film.

I preferred the ABC Minors (same bouncing ball).

We are the boys and girls well known as

The Minors of the ABC.

And every Saturday all line up

To see the films we like and shout aloud with glee.

We like to laugh and have a sing song,

'cos just a happy crowd are we.

We're all Pals together,

we are the Minors of the ABC.

Hey! Teesside, we may have sat near one another!, I remember watching - Tom Mix, Hopalong Cassidy, Roy Rogers & Trigger, Old Mother Riley, The Bowery Boys, The Three Stooges, Flash Gorden or is he just a figment of my imagination?, and much more that I can't remember. Thanks for the words to the song, I have tried to remember them but never could.:D

Thanks for the interest. No that's not the one - surprisingly. The time I referred to was long before the Ritz did Saturday morning shows. Flash Gordon and Deadwood Dick were a couple of the serials. We all used to delight in shouting "No, no, no " instead of "yes, yes ,yes".
