Time to ditch the ECHR?

As, what appears to be the norm, this topice seems to have gone off at a tangent so to bring it back in line -

It appears that it is going to cost you people 10,000 pounds per week or 500,000 pounds per annum to keep Qatada under security in the UK. But would that ensure he could do no harm? I think not. Seems his 18 year old son is following in his dad's footsteps! Chances are Qatada snr could do his foul work through Qatada jnr unless preventative measures are put into place.

Apparantly he can be legally deported back to Jordan regardless of what the ECHR says but Mrs May is flapping about and seemingly incapable of issuing the order. Talks are being held in Jordan re his deportation. Britain wants Jordan's promise that he will not be hurt in anyway.

At least his momma wants him back home and says he's been gone too long, bless her!

Interesting prog by Andrew Niell tonight about the ECHR: seems it was the brainchild of a Tory, none other than Winston Churchill; although no doubt inspired by a desire to prevent another holocaust or state repression by the USSR. Interesting also, that all signatories get a Judge on the ECHR; which includes the Russians; and most members (to varying degrees) ignore it's rulings, with the notable exception of the UK, which seems to take such Treaties literally.

The guy who pursued the quest for prisoners right to vote, was on too - seems he axed his landlady to death and served 25years for murder, took a law degree - then took the British Establishment all the way to the ECHR and won. Now, if the UK Gov don't comply, we can expect a raft of compensation claims from prisoners - yer couldn't make it up!
