observer
Doesn't really matter, does it? Seems several S/American leaders have gone down with cancer lately - coincidence or conspiracy?
asperity
They sanctioned an invasion, after seeing a depleted defence (removal of HMS Endurance) due to Tory Defence cut backs. And if they do it again (before 2030), we won't even have a carrier to provide air cover for the fleet. Although HMS Endurance was due to be removed from the South Atlantic, she hadn't been when the Argentinians started their take over bid. And, acting mainly as a survey ship, she had only a small contingent of marines and very limited arsenal. So I very much doubt whether her presence or removal would have had much effect on Galtieri's plans. He was trying the old ploy of distracting his own people's attention away from trouble at home with adventures abroad. It has to be said, though, that the Foreign Office wasn't making much of a fuss about his claims to the Falklands.
