Nick Tessla
Ridiculous - it's only a sports tournament - not as if it's something important - like a royal christening

Peter T
It would seem that the Government is donating £41 million pounds of tax-payers money towards the opening and closing ceremonies. How can anyone believe that we are in a recession when this plus the overseas aid is going on? CRAZY!!!

Dizzy
Apart from London (who get to keep and use all the new facilities) and apart from the hotels and businesses around there who will also gain something from it .... who else in the country is actually benefiting in any way from us having the Olympics held in the UK any idea ? Evil Sid
err me for one. just think of all those episodes of corrie and emmerdale and eastenders and Jeremy kyle I will miss whilst watching some foreigners lobbing spears around. (that reminds me must check to see if Zulu will be shown at christmas this year.)

Got an echo of the Life Of Brian there ..so apart from roads, public safety hotel bookings and a veloedrome what have the romans olympics ever done for us
observer
What you won't get is a cost benefit analysis.
algy
What you won't get is a cost benefit analysis. Every few years they drag the 'White elephant' out of it's enclosure to show the world, then when the shows over it is taken back and has to be kept at the tax payers expense until next time. observer
Interesting, that we'll have more troops deployed for the security of the Olympics, than we have in Afghanistan. Just thinking back to the excuse for having troops in Afghanistan; wasn't it to prevent the export of terrorism to the UK and elsewhere?!
