Evil Sid
Heard the latest research results today on the radio. Apparently if you head a football more than 1000 to 1500 times during a year it can lead to brain damage. Now what I want to know is how they came to this conclusion. Did they take a normal healthy human being do a brain scan and then make them head a ball 1000 times and then do another scan before making them head it for another 500 and repeating the scan and comparing the results ? May be a good excuse for the next footballer when they get into trouble with the ref.

harry hayes
Wonder if they ever tried heading a sodden leather ball as per the old days. Those laces........ Happy days
asperity
Probably the same research method used in other areas - invent a "problem", pluck a number out of the air and then put in a request for funds to further the "research".
Bazj
Which will explain why my brain is perfectly fine.... I was crap at football and was always the last one picked for the teams in the playground..... I couldn't even kick the bloody ball in a straight line; let alone head it! algy
Wonder if they ever tried heading a sodden leather ball as per the old days. Those laces........ Happy days Harry has "hit the ball on the head", although the weight of a modern ball when dry may be lighter than the old leather case ball (old 13-15oz, new 14-16oz) the old ball became much heavier when wet due to the leather absorbing and retaining moisture, so by the law of averages there should be more ex footballing idiots than there are playing the game today, judging by some of the idiots playing the game today that does not appear to be the case, personally I think the research is a load of crap!!
