algy
Where was this photo taken. Where were the cannons captured. Two forms of commercial transport used this area, what were they.

Correct Cleo, trains and (not trams) buses, main terminus for Crosville and also North Western (I think). Started the day with an easy one, the next one will be much more more difficult. PS. a bit later, must get breakfast now!.
Evil Sid
The canons came from Sevastopol or maybe Balaclava, as both were fought in the same area and I think they were Russian naval canons removed from the ships to defend both places. harry hayes
Recognised the picture. In my boy-hood there were plenty of cannons about the town, taken for munitions in the war. There was one in Orford Park. Another a hundred yards from the picture - along the river bank opposite the Ritz, where the Crosville buses used to park. another in Queen's gardens. Simple pleasures playing on them and imagining....... Happy days

Aren't they buried in Victoria Park?
algy
Aren't they buried in Victoria Park? I wouldn't have thought so Peter I'm sure they were removed for scrap and melted down to aid the war effort in WWII, as most of the iron railings were.
