observer
- walking alone in the streets, in the early hours of the morning?
JayC
Obs, If I was alone I would feel perfectly safe its only when there are others around its worrying. John
Dizzy
I personally wouldn't feel safe at all
little fella
The streets of warrington are certainly not safe at night. Maybe a middle aged man is ok, but stastic's show that young male's are the most to be in fights, young ladies are the most likly to be sexually assaulted, older females will have their bags stolen. Mind you if anything happens you maybe saved by a traffic warden there are hundreds of them, I see that they are working sundays now as well. reader
I think Ch5 News last night showed what Warrington was like at night all over drunks and a taxi. The Police shouldnt have to be out in force like that in just one street
Peter T
I didn't see that, but am I right in thinking that the Government's idea of 24 hr opening, hasn't reduced the problem of un-social behaviour? I am surprised.
observer
Nope, as we said; it's made things worse, by spreading the time of the problem later into the early hours.

observer
Simple answer to this: anyone who is drunk and disorderly, bang 'em up for the night, and then charge them a fine in the morning to get out!
Tilly
Fab idea, you've got my vote!

Legion
I wouldnt be afraid at all, although I would fear for other members of my family. I have occasionaly had such walks alone many times without incident, so this builds up a confidence, wether this is still wise in todays climate..I dont know, but thats how it is. observer
I would suggest, that if our timid politicians would finally get a grip; instead of whimpish bickering over stop and search laws, they would let the police off their leach and allow them to reclaim the streets for us, with no nonesense policing - then, rightly, it would be the hoodies and yobs who would be frightened of being out at night. Anna Fradgley
There was a time in my youth when I walked home from night clubs in the early hours of the morning - alone. However, there is no way, apart from an absolute emergency, that I would walk alone in the early hours of the morning now. Is that because things have changed in the last 20 years or have I become a little wiser because of age, experience and what we hear on the news? :thinker:
observer
Just watched a TV prog about Victorian crime; when there was less street lighting etc; with Jack the Ripper, Spring Heel Jack etc on the loose - seems our streets have always been unsafe?! Mary
I think all civilizations go through good and bad times economically, morally and financially. Victorian England was scary for those that did not have protection just like San Fransisco was 100 year ago. But right now I can think of far worse places to live than in England or America. Anna Fradgley
Mary You are right - Kenya or Afghanastan for example. Comparatively - we are very lucky.
