wolfie
Whatever the truth of the matter, the reason why we went into Afghanistan is now allegedly gone. So we can bring our troops home and stop wasting billions of pounds now?? Bin Laden has been replaced, we now have to get the new 'director of terror' and so on, and so on................... observer
Unfortunately it will never be over, as long as primitive religious dogmas persist throughout the world and the resource hungry "advanced" nations retain their appetite for material wealth. Malik
I am not taking sides here. I do believe USA took the right stance and blew him to bits. Reading a lot of posts on this and other forums seems a lot of people are against the americans. Maybe right maybe wrong ... but at least they go and kill their terrorists rather than invite them to sit in government on taxpayers money , even though they bluntly refused to swear allegiance. observer
He was originally on the CIA payroll, like all the dictators who are now suddenly out of favour!
Peter T
Whatever the truth of the matter, the reason why we went into Afghanistan is now allegedly gone. So we can bring our troops home and stop wasting billions of pounds now?? Thought we went in to eliminate the Taliban.
observer
No, to eliminate Bin Lid - BUT it's called mission creep!
Sha
No, to ensure that American pharmaceutical companies could continue to have the monopoly and cheap rates on the 80% of the world's opium that is grown in Afghanistan.
observer
Nope, that was part of the reason for the "mission creep" - plus the idea of an oil pipeline from the new S/Russian States.
Sha
and as you said Obs, Unfortunately it will never be over, as long as primitive religious dogmas persist throughout the world and the resource hungry "advanced" nations retain their appetite for material wealth. However, religion and nationalism are not the cause, they are merely the form of social control by which the masses are manipulated to fight each other and even die ? for ultimately nothing more than to line the pockets of the relatively few people who hold the world?s wealth in their hands. The present wars are for nothing more than to change the world?s ?power supply? from oil to nuclear and to ensure that the world?s Thorium resources and thus wealth stays in the same greedy hands. But as people wouldn?t sacrifice their lives for that there has to emerge ?evil dictators? and ?human rights? issues and religion and nationalism. - thus the sheep go willingly to slaughter! observer
I thought football had taken over as "the opiate of the people" but religion still retains it's place - notice in Egypt, that their revolutionary fervour has now descended into Muslim V Coptic sectarianism. asperity
I think that "Muslim v Coptic sectarianism" underestimates the Muslim "crusade" against anybody who doesn't agree with their warped vision of life If you don't follow their way then you are dead meat - end of story
observer
I think what it shows Asp; is the divisive nature of religion, even sects within religions, and the fact that despite landing men on the moon, most of humanity still live in a 7thC time warp. asperity
I think what it shows, Obs, is that you don't realise that Copts are Christians. No wonder the world is a mess. Carry on then

asperity
The skeletal remains of Lord Lucan and what appears to be a race horse have been discovered under the floor boards of a house in Pakistan. They were discovered by accident after the shooting of a man who lived in the house.
