Victor
Yet another mysterious fire, this time at the dis-used Howley Pub in Parr Street. I wonder how long it will be before it is considered to be unsafe and has to be demolished. This will, undoubtably be followed by a planning application for more flats. Does this seem so familiar ?? Bazj
Hmmmm conspiracy theories abound!! Just like the mysterious knocking down of the Bay Horse pub on Winwick Street to make way for the new development?
observer
Hope no one was smoking in there?!
Jackored7
I think the building of more flats is much more appealing than watching a disused pub fall into further disrepair, becoming an eyesore and possible danger to the public. observer
Perhaps if it were opened to smokers, it may become viable?!
Jackored7
But that would be against the law Observer. I know that the smoking ban has had a detrimental effect on pub takings but the availability of such cheap alcohol from supermarkets et al has probably had a bigger impact. chriswolves
I agree i would rather see flats or houses then disused pubs or rundown spaces across the town.
Dizzy
Didn't they have a fire there just before Christmas too Is the Howley Pub the one behind James Lee House, Staples and Blockbusters ?? I may be thinking of the wrong pub.
