fugtifino
...So says Tory Peer Lord Lang. What a vile, vile man. I hope the next waitress he encounters spits in his dinner, and he then gets run over by a bus on his way home. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1354979/Lord-Lang-Bus-drivers-waitresses-arent-important-claims-Tory-peer.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
asperity
I should imagine that this is the opinion of most of our so called "rulers". Come the revolution brother, there's no shortage of lamposts
Evil Sid
So a bus driver or a waiter/waitress has an unimportant job. Wonder how long it will take him to get served next time he dines out and how hot his meal will be. Why though have we got this committee if it has no powers whatsoever. What is the point of it if when they say no whomever they say no to can just go and do it anyway. If ever there was an unimportant job then his must surely be it. fugtifino
Why though have we got this committee if it has no powers whatsoever. Well spotted, Sid, bet they're on a decent retainer too. The committee, which is designed to prevent former ministers and senior civil servants from taking positions that capitalise on contacts and information they have gained from their time in public office,... Pffft, wonder if they have anything like performance indicators? Is this what Tony Blair would be doing now if he didn't have contacts and info gained from his political career? (from Wiki): In January 2008, it was confirmed that Blair would be joining investment bank JPMorgan Chase in a "senior advisory capacity"[142] and that he would advise Zurich Financial Services on climate change. Some sources have claimed that his role at JP Morgan will pay more than $1m a year.[142] This additional salary will contribute to annual earnings of over ?7m.[143] Blair also gives lectures and earns up to US$250,000 for a 90-minute speech.[144][145] Yale University announced on 7 March 2008 that Blair will teach a course on issues of faith and globalisation at the Yale Schools of Management and Divinity as a Howland distinguished fellow during the 2008?09 academic year.[146] Blair's links with, and receipt of an undisclosed sum from, UI Energy Corporation, a Korean company with oil interests in northern Iraq, have also been subject to media comment in the UK.[147]

Evil Sid
All jobs are important jobs to the people who have to do them. The thing I read into it that gave me the impression that they have no powers is that it is an ADVISORY committee. So any body can do that. Why do we need them to give advice to their mates who DO NOT have to take that advice. Mind you it depends on what advice they are giving. If it along the lines that you should not take that job as it will clash with information you have in your possession then fine. But being the septic I am I wonder if it more along the lines of "Well if you do take that job this is how you can cover up that you have prior knowledge so you don't get caught fiddling"
P J
Perhaps now that they are no longer in opposition Tories feel able to revert back to form and dispense with the nice guy, tie off, sleeves up, "we're all down with the Proles" facade. No longer the nasty party my left gogger. Still they've gone back on a hell of a lot of serious promises about issues which truly matter whereas this overprivelleged, pompass selfserver is merely being honest, to him nobody beneath a certain level of wealth matters or ever did except when they were toadying up to us to get our votes. If you voted Tory you probably now have an inkling as to what its like to be "groomed"
