observer
Seems our MP wants "the Council" to do more to help local buisiness, presumably by awarding contracts to local firms. Well, whilst I tend to agree with the sentiment, wouldn't The MP be better employed in changing the legal requirement for Councils to submit all contracts to open tendering process and allowing positive discrimination in favour of "local" firms? Peter T
But she is in opposition obs, you can't expect her to give a positive contribution.
Bazj
But she is in opposition obs, you can't expect her to give a positive contribution. but we never got a positive contribution when she and her crowd of champagne socialists were in power either at about a cost of ?250,000 a year.... exactly what does she do? Peter T
Permanently snipe at the Council?! We do it for free!!! I wonder if we can claim?
Dizzy
Maybe she should join the forum... Not only is it fun but you can also learn a lot, make friends (regardless of party following), make enemies, argue the toss and debate things and it's even a great way to vent your frustrations and spread the word about things And all for FREE Maybe there is another side to this lady that we have not yet seen(and others for that matter) ... I hope she/they join Would be nice to be able to 'chat' and 'discuss' rather than just read about them There's even a local/national and political section if they just want to post in there
asperity
If she has any savvy she will be reading this forum avidly.
Dizzy
Gosh do you really think so Asp If that was me then I'd certainly have to join in and 'debate' after reading some of the comments and criticism.. I'd definately want to try and correct or educate those who questioned my motives or reasons and I'd want to put my case forward a bit more to make them try and understand where I was coming from and why even if in the end they still kept their own views Maybe she thinks everone on here is a lib dim or a con... but far from it from what I have seen over the years
observer
.. or maybe, she'd be punching above her weight?!
asperity
If she isn't taking note of what people are saying in local forums then she certainly isn't doing her job. Are you noting this Mr Mowatt?
Peter T
We did have a cllr from Lymn who used to join in, but he got told to stop by his party.
observer
The implication of what your saying Asp, is that they could be interested in what you are saying - alas, the reality is, they're only interested in for whom you will be voting. Dizzy
We did have a cllr from Lymn who used to join in, but he got told to stop by his party. Who was that then How can cllr's be told they are not allowed to chat on here... Surely it is only like them chatting and discussing things with people on the street or over the phone
observer
They have to remain "on message" Diz; if they say what they really think, it may contradict their Party line or they may "offend" some sensitive soul!
Dizzy
but surely they could say the 'wrong thing' when chatting on the streets, in the pub or over the phone
observer
They have to be carefull what they say, wherever they are - especially in these days of phone hacking!

observer
Diz, tell me of any work enviroment where not being in tune with your leader/boss assists your career prospects? You could argue, that generally, folk hate mavericks, as they remind themselves of their own bovine compliance! It suggests that's life's a choice between career or concience. Dizzy
I actually got higher up in the 'progress ladder' (or food chain) where I worked for having the guts to speak out against management decisions when maybe I shouldn't have and believe it or not they even started taking me seriously Maybe they were just trying to silence me though

Dizzy
ha ha that's a quote that someone else I know uses Wonder if that's why they asked me to go back working for them too Shame I'm not the same when it comes to pie shops though eh

Peter T
but surely they could say the 'wrong thing' when chatting on the streets, in the pub or over the phone But when it is in print, it is harder to deny.
