observer Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Seems the Bankers will be shelling out around ?7billion in bonuses; and a senior Banker (a Mr Diamond) believes it's time to drop all the public outrage and let it go, "the time for remorse is over". Well the politicians may well be going soft on Mr Diamond and Co; but let's hope the hard pressed public will not forgive and forget - imo these characters should feel lucky they havn't been lined up and shot; and IF they start squealing about moving abroad if their bonuses are interfeared with - just confiscate their passports. Sue Durnim Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I agree with the Banker who said ?you should not reward failure with Government/public funds and instead let the banks fail?. Quote
wolfie Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I agree with the Banker who said ?you should not reward failure with Government/public funds and instead let the banks fail?. That'll be the one that's on ?10m a year + bonuses Quote
observer Posted January 12, 2011 Author Report Posted January 12, 2011 The problem was/is Sue, that the Banks are too big to be allowed to fail, had they been allowed to "fail", a great number of ordinary folk would have suffered, aside from our national economy. That's why, the Gov need to step in and sort them out; breaking them up into smaller competitive units that can be allowed to fail; and seperating the high risk casino operation from the High Street operation. They also need tougher regulation and taxation of profits and bonuses. IF the tax-payer is paying the piper, the tax-payer (public) should be calling the tune. Quote
P J Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 Problem with that Observer is that the Tory party are completely in hock to the banks(more than any other party in history) and a great deal of their number come from a banking background. Bankers are their "people" Quote
observer Posted January 12, 2011 Author Report Posted January 12, 2011 No doubt about that, and leapards can't change their spots; however, it was Bliar and Brown who led us into this latest political love affair with the City and gave them light touch regulation' in the belief that in the absence of a national manufacturing base, the City would be the driver for economic prosperity. What we wern't told, was that "the City" would make all this money on the virtual roulette wheel of high risk investments. So NONE of the main Parties have clean hands I'm afraid - hence the need for a complete change imo. Quote
Lt Kije Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 And the Tories at the time wanted even less regulation Quote
