observer
Reminds me of the situation that brought a proper sewerage system to London; when the Thames was the main sewer, it caused a stink; so bad that Parliament couldn't sit. It just gave them the will to commit to a huge sewerage project - so I guess, nowt gets done, until it affects them.

Peter T
I thought the UK got most of its weather because of the gulf stream, hence we are not as cold as other places with the same latitude, Take a look at Edmonton in Canada, It gets a lot colder their Thought the Gulf stream had moved? asperity
The Gulf stream doesn't create the weather, but it does mean that the seas around Britain are warmer than they would be otherwise, keeping air temperatures up. The reason why central Canada is so much colder in winter (and warmer in summer) than us is because of it being a large land mass which has a high pressure system over it, same as Moscow. Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada, has a climate very similar to ours.

Dizzy
Well the only thing keeping MPs in the dry, is the Thames barrier! Â Does it have any plugs that we could remove
observer
Well actually Diz; there was a drama-documentary a while back, about a freak tidal surge combined with torrential rain conditions (albeit a speculative scenario); but it appears it's quite possible for the barrier to fail and for most of the City to be submerged. Dizzy
... I was just thinking more of just the areas where the MP's etc are though
