algy
Why do wild geese or indeed seagulls fly in a vee formation?

Dizzy
By flying in a 'V' formation each of the other birds can see the leader. I(The leader being a female and the only one of them knows the correct directions to their destination. ) If they flew in a straight line beside each other they would have no idea who was leading and would get lost. If they all flew one behind the other then each of them would just simply be following the one directly infront and if that bird had a funny turn and went off track those behind would follow and they would all be lost. or maybe not Or is it something to do with wind direction and not being in the line of of excreted bodily gasses etc ? observer
A V formation allows the followers to benefit from the slip stream of the leaders - I think?
