If your over 60 its free, for everyone else you need a National insurance number, for that you need a job, or you can work for yourself. Most Brits take the second option. The system of getting a number is crap and tends to get abused by foreigners, ie they set a business up, with no intention of doing anything but it gives them a NI number.

Yep the British are not the only ones having their system abused by foreigners, The Spanish to have the problem, but in their case its the British doing the abusing

No, in America they're heading north from S/America to the USA; over here they're heading north from Africa and west from Asia to Europe, with a preference for the UK.

for example if i applied for and received a grant would a postage stamp size EU flag stuck to a back wall of of the staff toilet of my premises serve to honour the agreement or not?
