Basil Rathbone 24 hour film marathon

Our Turner cable service devoted 24 hours to Basil Rathbone today. I was surprised to see him in CONFESSION, a remake of the German film MAZURKA, in 1937. He conducts, he chases divas, he dances the MAZURKA. It begins in Poland, 1912.

Naturally he's a cad who compromises the marriage of the female lead and gets murdered, but it was nice to see him in a slightly less cerebral role.

Of course but he also was a good dancer - both Mazurka and Waltz in that German-based film.

I read a brief biography on Wikipedia and it says he was worried in one of his screen sword-fighting duels. He was worried he might accidentally pierce his actor opponent who lacked defensive skills.

And I didn't know he'd been born in South Africa, and served with distinction in the Great War.
