observer
Should the Royal Family be above politics or should they act as the concience of the Nation?
harry hayes
They should keep out of politics. As far as buildings and that type of thing goes, by all means give an opinion. Royals will be criticised whatever they do - or don't do. Happy days
observer
Problem is, they don't have a contract of employment, so they have to make a job up as they go along - we've got two Princes who've been expensively trained for the Military, but are currently swanning around S/Africa. Dizzy
What exactly do the royal family do apart from being the 'royal family' ? ...... and how much do they get paid a year for happening to be being the 'royal family' ? Odd sort of life and job althought I guess they didn't choose it

Sue Durnim
I agree that we should keep the royal family, maybe we should lower their living allowances, not just freeze the monies they get for 2 or 3 years, reduce the hangers on, we do not need cousins 25th inline to be subsidised by the tax payer. I see the royal family as living souvenirs that generate revenue and much needed jobs for the tourist industry etc, they act as very good ambassadors for this country and the Common Wealth. I am not a royalist, just a realist.
observer
An inbred Head of State is probably preferable to a politician doing the job, BUT "we're all in it together" with this "austerity thing", so perhaps they could downsize to the Scandanavian model - after all, life's a s**t sandwich and we've all got to take a bite!
