Sha
It?s not a ?fit of pique? but is, as you seem to infer, a political manoeuvre to try to distance themselves from some future unpopular decision making! (the most unpopular to date being the off-load of the Walton Hall Estate) Neither is it ?trivial?. The backlash of the last unpopular LD decision in this area, the demolition of Stockton Heath Primary and the manner in which this was conducted, resulted in the loss of a very longstanding LD councillor. A further and even more unpopular decision is highly likely to cut short the careers of those presently ?in popularity? in this area. Moreover, should things go awry with the Clegg/Cameron alliance, (which is highly likely) and another general election is called. The loss of local popularity would impact on the possibility of a conservative MP being re-elected. Therefore, as the local LD/Con alliance is extremely damaging to the Conservative party both locally and nationally, and as this ?unholy alliance? have little if any chance of being in power in Warrington after next years elections anyway, it seems ridiculous that Keith Bland would even consider maintaining the alliance!!! It seems even more ridiculous that his party members would allow him to lead them on such a destructive course! But then, the LD?s who under Ian Marks seem destined to be thrown back into the shadows for the next twenty years are still following his lead! It?s a strange business politics! Dizzy
Surely the local Cons are not even considering backing the Local Libs again If they do after everything that has gone on and been said then the Cons will look like pathetic little clingers on..... The Cons should cut the local umbilical chord lifeline that they once offered and leave the Libs to shrivel up and go away regarless of what farce is going on at national level So what if they loses some of their executive board payments.... at least they would gain a lot of new respect for sticking to their princliples. observer
Slagging off the LibDems for their alleged antics during the Warr/S election sounds like a "fit of pique" to me; the reality is, few politicians have principles, most have ambitions (?!). As for Labour, the budget realities won't change - so back to cuts or fudge, and even bigger deficits.
Peter T
Dizzy, just read the outcome of Monday night's meeting.( playing catch-up.) Seems that the Tory's put money before anything else. I thought they had more about them than that.
observer
That would suggest 90% of councillors are Tory!
