why not :D

a quick look round at the weekend revellers in town centre and you could make that a certainty.:shock:

mind you mathematical probabilities can suggest that there is superior intelligent life in sankey brook. ok the probability is so small that it is extremely unlikely but not impossible.

No, Obs, I'm pretty ordinary, but you will definitely find it more rewarding talking to a six month old carton of peach yoghurt than you will trying to chat sensibly in Town Centre when the clubs empty out! At least it won't vomit on your shoes, call you a *****er and go for a poo on Bridge Street.....

Observer, I too read the article, very interesting.

In a nut shell he was saying that it was best staying well clear, he says that the aliens would probably have the same detructive powers as the human race by taking advantage of the earths resources and its people, using them as slaves then moving on.

Hon y soit qui mal y pense, eh? Assuming aliens would behave like that, just because we would/have/do....

...Shame to him who evil thinks!, not quite sure what you mean?

A brief extract from an Hawkins news article...

Hawkins belief of space aliens, warning us that our constant attempts to contact them may not turn out as brightly and peacefully as we hope.

Hawking foresees that if we were to actually make contact with life more intelligent or technologically advanced than us there?s a good likelihood that it will be the fate of our little blue planet. As they will most likely be overwhelmed with ideas something similar to our Manifest Destiny.

Hawking "We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

But he warned that aliens might simply raid Earth for resources, then move on.

"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," he said.

Prof Hawking thinks that, rather than actively trying to communicate with extra-terrestrials, humans should do everything possible to avoid contact.

He explained: "We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

Interesting thought eh and I'm sure that there must be other life forms in the universe capable of evolving and adapting to the enviromnent that is available to them apart from us.

Who knows we may just be living our lives on a much larger host ....like flees on a dog.. or bacteria on a sponge.. ... the superior beings may even be testing us to see HOW we evolve, what affects us, what can kill us off or more importantly how we become immune to/or survive certain things...

Anyway it's time for me to Phooone Hoooome now 8)

You only suspect others of the evil within you. If someone suspects aliens are hostile and exploitative, it's because somewhere in his nature is at least the potential to be the same. Otherwise, the thought would not occur to him.

Hawkins correctly compared the situation with the early European colonisations; superior technologies and a need to exploit resources dictated exploitation. btw LP. such aliens may consider us (incl you) as inferior as those microbes on the back of your fridge!

Think we've got about 50 billion years to leave this planet, before our Sun explodes into a super-nova. Assuming we survive our own antics, volcanic disasters and asteroid hits; we will no doubt venture "where no man has gone before" to find and exploit colonies elsewhere!

Now, you see, that's you assuming they would, because you do.....

No, that's me and Hawkins using the balance of probability, based on historical precedence and logic!

Logic's not your strong suit is it? Otherwise you'd have spotted that there's not actually much historical precedence for contact with aliens..... in fact, there's none, so you and Steve would be GUESSING. In his case, at least it's an educated guess, I suppose!

I guess your just being irritating for the sake of it, cos you can't be so thick that you can't see the direct comparison - facing any entity seeking resources. Whether it's a Spanish galleon seeking gold in S/America or a nomadic alien lifeform roaming space looking for a home or resources - the logical outcome would be the same - exploitation.
