vic
Now this is the cheeky one - that Gordon Brown is responsible for increasing the gap between rich and poor. There are of course far fewer people in poverty - the wealth gap is down to the Tory-supporting businessmen who've paid themselves huge pay rises - despite complaining how they'd be ruined by the minimum wage. (And how would the Tory plan to reduce inheritance tax for the wealthiest people help that gap?)
observer
Saw that poster - and thought it was Gordon after the Tory vote!
Bazj
Why do people make so much about this inheritance tax thing? It counts for bugger all if the person who currently has all the money doesn't die. The person may not die for the next 20 years, just cos the Tories get in doesn't mean a load of rich people are going to suddenly die and leave it all to their offspring who may just pay a bit less in tax, but for gods sake, this blithering idiot Brown has given all our money to the banks and thendithers and flusters over taxing the arse off them when the state sposored ones hand out millions of our money in bonuses! The bonus pool should have been paid straight back to the government, not to some overpaid banker
Lt Kije
Are you going to answer the question Baz
Bazj
Are you going to answer the question Baz I just did Kije.... the inheritance tax thing is a red herring unless all of the rich people die and leave their money to someone who would then pay slightly less tax. Just because they bring in a law or whatever which lowers the tax levels,; doesn't mean that all the rich people will decide (in a Crazy Horse kind of way) that "today is a good day to die" They could all live another 20 years in which case they don't die and there is no tax to pay on the inheritance
observer
but folk are dying all the time. even the rich ones!
Bazj
Yes, but the whole makeup of Gordons attack on the inheritance tax cut is the fact the it will only benefit millionaires.... that is what he says, but those millionaires may not be dead in the next 20 years and even if a few do, it is hardly going to be the be all and end all of the tax system. Brown makes out that if this cut in the tax is brought in, it will benefit these millionaires (Like Shaun Woodward, Tony Blair etc) immediately and it won't
observer
Mores the pity in the case of Bliar! Look Baz; let's get it all in context: we're skint - any Government is either going to take a knife to public services or tax everything in sight or both - and as boy George has said "we're all in it together" - which, if you have even a remote belief in fairness, means that those with most pay the most. The only problem with Gordy and Co, is he's still not going to screw them hard enough, especially the city slicker bankers who got us into this pickle in the first place.
