observer
Is this clubs predicament the shape of things to come?
Paul Kennedy
Yes if their backers turn out to be "Men of Straw" as was the case with Portsmouth. The business model of major teams is simply not sustainable without the support of very wealthy backers. Often reminds me of the joke: How do you make a small fortune from football.......start with large one.
AdrianR
United are looking somewhat jade don the financial front due to the debt, Liverpool are in a mess, Everton are struggling. See Italy in the 1990's and Napoli. Might be more than one in the EPL that goes under.
observer
Seems "the red knights" are trying to save Man U.
Peter T
The experts are saying that it would cost a ?billion to get rid of the Glaziers who will milk the club for as long as they can.
Bazj
But there are people out there even now who will pay a ?billion for Man Utd because despite the debt, they still make more money than any other UK club and if not for the interest payments, they would be top of the world-wide list instead of Real madrid. The likes of Utd and Liverpool will never get to Portsmouth predicament as there will always be someone willing to bail them out from their large fan bases..... observer
They'll all eventually go bust if the roller coaster of ever increasing player's wages carries on - the FA and/or FIFA could put a cap on transfer fees and wages, and while their at it, use of foreign players and Managers - that should bring a bit of sanity back.
