Jerry
Silver coins found in a coastal shipwreck date to 1783 -- and the sellers suggest they could have seen the pockets of Benjamin Franklin or George Washington. It never occured to me before that the boys name: George is a version of the ancient regal name: Carl. The coin has an image of George III, and the title is Carolus III Dei Gratia. The obverse letters are: Hispan et Ind Rex M 8 R F F There's a shield with two rampant lions and two masonry towers. What would be the inscription on King Charles' coins -- also Carolus? Jerry
Now that I think about it -- I once read that the English language had no "G" sound until the Norman invasion -- hence the english word 'garage' from Old French. True?
