Geoffrey Settle Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 Did anyone see the low flying UFO over Cinnamon Brow a few minutes ago? It was a large lantern with a very large flame burning inside. Caught by an esterly wind it headed off towards Croft, lasting for about four minutes. Quite a sight, does anyone know what it was or who made it? Quote
indy Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 saw something very similar over Paddington a couple of months ago !!! apparently it could be one of those chinese lanterns that rise in the air and drift along on the wind when lit .... Quote
Geoffrey Settle Posted December 14, 2009 Author Report Posted December 14, 2009 Your right Indie - looks like it was a Night Sky Lantern indeed and they retail at around ?20. 1st time I've seen them but they do look spectacular. Dizzy Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 There were hundreds of the things flying last night despite warnings from the fire brigade about to the dangers of them... they suggested people followed them to see where they landed to make sure they didn't cause fires how would you do that ? Never reaslised how big they were and they did look rather pretty Quote
inky pete Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 We were at a friends farm over in Dunham for a house party last night. There were loads of those lanterns floating over from Hale way. So first thing this morning we all had to tramp across the pasture fields looking for ones which had come down. If the cows eat the bits of wire in them they'll puncture their stomachs and could die.
